Who we care for

Two kinds of care, one medical team

Every client has a Registered Nurse who writes and reviews the care plan, with doctors available for medical oversight.

Senior Care

Care for seniors, at home

Nursing, blood work and doctor-reviewed care plans for seniors in their own homes and in independent living.

Senior living at home

Stay at home, with a care team that comes to you

Moving into a residence is not the only way to get regular nursing care. Our seniors keep their own home, routines and neighbours. We bring the clinical care on a set schedule and keep the family updated after every visit.

  • Registered Nurse home assessment and a written care plan
  • LPN visits for vitals, medication checks, wound and catheter care
  • Blood work at home by a certified phlebotomist, delivered to the lab the same day
  • Doctor review of the care plan and test results
  • Visit notes and results in the family portal

Independent living support

Help when you need it, without a monthly plan

Some people manage well on their own and just need a hand now and then. Book single visits from the same team, at home or at your independent living suite.

Home care for your patients

Some patients need more than an office visit: seniors living alone, people just home from hospital, children with complex needs. Refer them to us and our nurses care for them at home, with updates and results back to you.

  • Simple referrals. Fax, email or EMR referral.
  • We contact the patient. Your front desk doesn't chase appointments.
  • Care plans and updates to you. Our RN sends the care plan and visit notes to the referring provider.
  • Flexible billing. Families pay us directly, or your clinic or residence is billed monthly.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

Senior Care

Questions about senior care

Do I have to move into a residence to get nursing care?

No. Our senior care packages are built for people living in their own homes, condos or independent living suites. The nurses and phlebotomists come to you.

What is the difference between an RN and an LPN visit?

A Registered Nurse assesses health, writes and updates the care plan and handles more complex care. A Licensed Practical Nurse makes regular visits for vitals, medications, wound care and injections, following the RN’s plan.

How does blood work at home get to the lab?

A certified phlebotomist collects the samples at home, labels them in front of you and delivers them to the lab the same day. Doctor-ordered tests use your requisition.

Can family members see visit notes?

Yes, with the client’s consent. Each family member gets their own patient-portal log-in to see visits, the care plan, reviewed results and messages.

Can we change or cancel a care package?

Yes. Your RN may suggest a different package as needs change. You can switch or end a package from the next month with 30 days’ notice.

Is home care covered by Alberta Health Care?

Our visit fees are not covered by Alberta Health Care. Lab tests ordered by your doctor usually are, and some services may be covered by private insurance, Veterans Affairs or employer benefits.

Do you help with bathing, dressing and meals?

Yes. Our Health Care Aides help with bathing, dressing, toileting, meals, light housekeeping, errands and companionship, following a care plan written by a Registered Nurse.

Do you offer overnight or 24-hour care?

Yes, round-the-clock care at home can be arranged. It is planned care, not an emergency service: in an emergency, always call 911.

See senior care packages →

Children Care

Questions about children care

Are your nannies trained for children with special needs?

Yes. For children with special needs, a Registered Nurse writes the routine and trains the nanny on it before care begins, then checks in regularly.

How are your nannies screened?

Every nanny has a police and vulnerable sector check, current first aid and CPR, references we verify, and training on your child’s routine.

Can a nanny give my child medication?

Only as written in the RN care routine, and only with your written consent. Nannies are not nurses and do not do tasks that need a nursing licence.

Do you offer overnight care for newborns?

Yes. Our Newborn & Baby Care plan includes overnight shifts, with a full feeding, sleep and diaper log for you in the morning.

What if our regular nanny is sick or away?

On the Children Care plan, we send a backup nanny who has been briefed on your child’s routine.

Is there a minimum shift length?

Yes, shifts are at least 4 hours. Please give 24 hours’ notice to change or cancel a shift.

See nanny care plans →

General

Which areas do you serve?

Calgary, Airdrie, Cochrane, Okotoks and Chestermere.

How much does care cost?

The first consult and assessment are free. Pricing depends on the visits or hours in your plan and is confirmed in writing before care starts.

What should I do in an emergency?

Call 911. Round-the-clock care can be booked, but we are not an emergency response service, and portal messages are not monitored around the clock.

FAQ

Questions from Calgary Care clients

Do I need a requisition?

Yes, for doctor-ordered blood work. Your doctor or our doctor will provide it, and we send it to Blood Tech before the visit.

Can the draw happen on the same day as my nurse visit?

Often, yes. Your Calgary Care nurse can arrange the draw for the same morning so you have fewer visits.

Can you take blood from my child at home?

Yes. Pediatric draws are done calmly at home with a parent or guardian present.

How early can you come?

Fasting draws start at 7 AM on weekdays and 8 AM on Saturdays.

Who sees my results?

The provider who ordered the test. Your Calgary Care RN and doctor see them too when they are part of your care plan.

Blood Tech Diagnostics Inc. is an independent mobile lab collection service and a partner of Calgary Care Medical Clinic. Your Calgary Care team is responsible for your care plan; the ordering provider is responsible for test orders and results.
